Germany is a country in Western Central Europe that stretches from the Alps across the Northern European lowlands to the Baltic and Baltic Seas. Germany has the second largest population in Europe (seventh place) and occupies seventh place in terms of area. The territory of Germany comprises 357,021 km2, consisting of 349,223 km2 of land and 7,798 km2 of water.
The height ranges from the mountains of the Alps (highest point: the Zugspitze with 2.962 meters in the south to the shores of the North Sea in the northwest and the Baltic Sea in the northeast.) In between the wooded low mountain range and the lowlands of northern germany (lowest point): Neuendorf-Sachsenbande at 3.54 meters below sea level, crossed by some of Europe’s largest rivers as the Rhine, Danube and Elbe .
Germany borders on nine European countries, second only to Russia: Denmark in the north, Poland and the Czech Republic in the east, Switzerland (its only non-EU neighbor) and Austria in the south, France in the southwest and Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands in the west.
